Why Are We Getting So Fat?

All around the world, people are getting fatter and fatter. The obesity problem is reaching countries such as China, Japan and even Korea, where the population weight had never been a source of concern in the past. It appears as if no one these days can escape the continuously expanding waistline. How come we are becoming so obese as a species? Poor nutrition can be the only answer. Nutrition is something that we are severely lacking when it comes to what we eat, how much we eat and when we eat.It is easy to see why obesity is on the rise when fast food restaurants are in almost every town, portion sizes continue to increase in size, and foods contain fat, sugar, and preservatives. The only answer can come from a solid knowledge of nutrition.

Food Is Fuel

Today we keep our focus on food and it’s taste, as well as the quantity of it we eat, and we often overlook the basic fact that food is just our fuel. We get the energy needed to get through the day from food. When our bodies have an overabundance of food, it is stored as fat. Fat isn’t our body’s way of getting back at us or its way of being spiteful, our body’s are merely acting as they were designed to do. Aside from preventing starvation, fat basically provides heat to our body and insulation to our bones, internal organs and even to our muscles. Excess calories get turned into fat when we eat too much, and we don’t burn off those calories with exercise or everyday activities. These are nutritional considerations that we must take into account. Because of our daily eating habits, the body fat increases very fast.

Know Thy Enemy

Weight gain does not appear from nowhere, obesity is something that we produce slowly over time if we are not cautious. They say that knowledge is power, but that is only true if you use it. Eating healthy, taking nutrition supplements and going to the gym is the best way to fight obesity. Know your enemy and you will be able to vanquish them. Don’t stop gaining knowledge and use what you learn and you will be triumphant at whatever you do.
